The Quiet Power of Being Humble

Ku`ia ka hele a ka na`au ha`aha`a.

Hesitant walks the humble hearted.

"A humble person walks carefully,

so as not to hurt others. Don't walk all over people!

Those who are sensitive to others inspire respect and allegiance.

Those who throw their weight around will hurt others,

and eventually themselves, when enough people have been hurt."

Mo'olelo No'eau

To be humble is a core Hawaiian value, and part of the essence of what it means to live in Aloha. There is a quiet power (mana) that comes from being humble (ha'aha'a).

In order to be humble, we need to bow before the Divine, and let a Higher Power guide us.

This is to bow before our Divinity that we possess within, as well as the Divinity in others.

In order to bow before the Divine within us, we need to set our lower thinking aside, and open up to our Higher wisdom to guide our thoughts, to guide our words, and to guide our actions from a place of Higher Love.

To be humble, we do not need to put ourselves below another, but rather we see all as equals. When we humble ourselves in this way, we hesitate before speaking, and choose our words carefully as to speak kindly to others. We do not assume that we know everything. Instead we hesitate before making a judgment ~ listen and observe carefully, with an open heart, and we try to understand the other person's point of view.

Living in aloha also requires us to humble ourselves in nature as well, understanding that every part of creation carries the essence of the Divine. There are also spirits that dwell in nature. We walk upon the earth understanding that we share this space with many other powerful beings that we may not see with our eyes. Therefore we hesitate to do anything that will hurt the earth, or offend the forms of life that we share our existence with.

Let's live in a way that is caring, calming and celebrates and nurtures life!

Small acts of good ripple out to create big waves of positive change.
