~ E hele me ka pu’olo ~ Always Take An Offering With You.

Make Every Person Place or Condition Better Than You Found It Always.

Wherever You Go, Always Take Something With You.

Traditional Hawaiian Altar, Molokai
Traditional Hawaiian Altar, Molokai

I love how this Hawaiian proverb reminds us that life is for giving.

The wisdom of the Hawaiian culture reminds us of the importance of caring for our family, our community, and the land we live on.

Hawaiian teachings remind us of the importance of offering gifts to the spirits who dwell among us, to honour the ancestors.

Traditionally, an altar would be placed at the entrance to the property and offerings would be placed there upon entry.

When you go out in nature, remember you are standing on sacred ground. Take care of our forests, our waters, our soils, and tread lightly. And give thanks to the spirits of these places whenever you can.

You can offer gifts out in nature with gratitude. Offerings to nature can include herbs, flowers, prayers, or any sacred objects that hold meaning to you.

In these times of change, we must remember to treat our community like we are all part of one family.  Look around you and open your heart to others.  Think of ways you can offer something to the community.

The next time you go out, take a little gift with you, and offer it to someone you meet.  This could be food, or any kind of object that means something to you, such as a crystal, a piece of art, or jewellery. These small acts of kindness make a big difference in the world!
